Yvonne M. Acosta's 10-plus years of litigation experience combined with her advanced education and applied experience in nursing uniquely qualify her to assist clients in the healthcare industry. Ms. Acosta's practice encompasses insurance defense, premises liability, personal injury, workers' compensation, and labor and employment. She also has extensive experience handling various administrative matters, including charges before the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas.

Before entering the practice of law, Ms. Acosta worked as a registered nurse in various capacities at one of El Paso's leading hospitals. Her positions included staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and patient educator in newborn and obstetrics nursing. Yvonne has also been an adjunct and associate clinical nursing professor in both the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs at the University of Texas at El Paso's College of Health Sciences. Ms. Acosta also previously worked as a nursing consultant and an expert witness in healthcare related matters.

Ms. Acosta is an active member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Association of American Nurse Attorneys, El Paso Bar Association, El Paso Women's Bar Association (Vice-President, 2008-2009), El Paso Society for Human Resource Management, and El Paso Mexican American Bar Association. Yvonne is also an active member of the El Paso Women's ACTS organization. She is a published author and frequently makes presentations related to legal and healthcare topics at seminars, workshops, conferences, and corporate events throughout the Southwest region.

Fluent in both spoken and written Spanish, Ms. Acosta is active on committees for the El Paso Women's ACTS organization, which serves local parishes. A lifelong El Pasoan, she has two daughters, Victoria and Amanda.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Represented both licensed vocational nurses and registered nurses before peer review. committees, grievance committees, and licensing boards both locally and at the state level.
  • Represented clients in mass tort litigation workers' compensation claims in Hidalgo County, Texas.
  • Served as local counsel for Ford Motor Company in product liability/wrongful death cases.
  • Represented governmental entities in personal injury cases.
