11th Annual ScottHulse Labor & Employment Law Seminar Set for March 7th

The 11th annual ScottHulse Labor & Employment Law Seminar is set for Thursday, March 7th at the El Paso Community College (EPCC) Administrative Services Center. The theme for this year’s seminar is “Back to School: Making Complex Human Resources Issues as Easy as 1-2-3”. The seminar, which is designed for human resource professionals, managers, supervisors, executives, business owners, and in-house legal counsel, will cover a variety of legal and regulatory issues and day-to-day managerial challenges that affect businesses of all sizes. ScottHulse is again presenting the seminar in partnership with the South-West Texas Border Small Business Development Center Network at El Paso Community College, which serves small businesses and individuals interested in starting a business. “Employers face complex, rapidly changing laws and regulations related to labor and employment issues, and changes in leadership at various agencies always adds to the confusion and uncertainty,” said attorney Rosemary Marin, who heads the firm’s ScottHulse Labor & Employment practice group. “To reduce risk and protect a business or organization, it is imperative that executives and managers have a strong understanding of current laws and take steps to ensure compliance. They also need to be aware of potential changes in federal rules and regulations, as well as the implications of those changes, and take proactive steps to prepare.” In addition to an overview of the current legal and regulatory environment, topics will include compliance with the rules, regulations and documentation requirements of various governmental agencies, including harassment and discrimination in the “Me, too” era, HIPAA, effective employee handbooks, Immigration, and complex wage and hour issues. “Seminar attendees will learn how to be proactive in preventing employment-related legal problems, which could result in costly litigation or settlements,” said Ms. Marin. “We will also cover things that organizations can do to be better prepared and win when they are faced with formal claims.” Seminar attendees can earn certification credits for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), continuing legal education (CLE), and continuing professional education (CPE). The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center at 9050 Viscount Blvd. The registration fee of $155 for “early bird” registrants (deadline February 8th), includes a seminar manual and reference materials as well as a certificate of attendance, continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
