Associate Attorney – Tax Law

ScottHulse PC, a leading, AV Preeminent Rated commercial law firm headquartered in El Paso, Texas, and serving the West Texas, Mexico and Southern New Mexico Borderplex, is seeking an Associate Tax Attorney with 2+ years of substantive tax experience and an LLM in tax.

This is an opportunity to be a key member of a tax practice which advises both large and small businesses, individuals, public charities and private foundations in all aspects of income, estate and gift tax law as well as state and local taxation. Collaboration with the Firm’s other practice groups, including corporate, M&A, real estate, healthcare, and estate planning, enhances opportunities for the Tax group.

Key areas of representation and service include domestic, international and cross-border tax planning, tax compliance and administration, state and local taxes, and defense in tax controversies. Our tax attorneys also structure complex business arrangements such as the acquisition and disposition of assets, stock and interests in corporations, partnerships and joint ventures. As one of the leading law firms in the U.S./Mexico Borderplex region, we advise clients on international and cross-border tax issues related to international transactions, including helping our clients to structure entities and acquire and dispose of businesses and property in both countries.

This position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a senior partner, who is one of the most respected tax law attorneys in the Southwest. The associate who is hired for this position will be challenged and rewarded by an accelerated track, which provides an opportunity to grow quickly.

The ideal candidate will have broad-based experience in both business and tax law, including forming for profit and not-for-profit business entities; the purchases and sales of businesses and real estate; business succession planning; tax planning; tax audits; administrative appeals; tax litigation; and tax-exempt entity matters. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to explain legal and tax strategies to clients are important.

Outstanding academic credentials and excellent written and oral communication skills required. Texas Bar and LLM in tax required; New Mexico Bar, a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish skills and ties to El Paso are desirable.
