Tilli McCarthy Villalobos joined ScottHulse in 2025 after spending nearly a decade as a prosecutor with the Department of Justice and the State of Texas.
Ms. Villalobos has handled dozens of jury trials in both federal and state court and successfully briefed and argued cases before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. While with the Department of Justice, Ms. Villalobos served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Mexico and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Oklahoma. As an Assistant United States Attorney, Ms. Villalobos oversaw a myriad of complex cases and served as the Tribal Liaison to the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
Ms. Villalobos has been recognized by the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico as the attorney of the year in 2024 and previously received the Director’s Award from FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Ms. Villalobos is a graduate of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and Southern Utah University. While attending SMU, she represented indigent clients in the Criminal Justice Clinic and worked as an intern in the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit. While attending Southern Utah University Ms. Villalobos was selected as “The Outstanding Student in Criminal Justice and Political Science for 2012’s Graduating Class,” represented the university as a delegate at the Education Without Borders Conference in the United Arab Emirates, and studied crimes against humanity in Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
Ms. Villalobos is also actively involved in the community. She is a member and former President of the Junior League of Las Cruces, prior Board Chair of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, and prior member of the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Alliance. She also works with many local animal rescues as an advocate and has fostered dozens of dogs looking for their forever homes. Ms. Villalobos previously volunteered in Kenya with an organization called Africa is Lifechanging. She is a mother of 3 and is very involved at her childrens’ schools and in their extracurricular activities.
